Whenever I step outside and the hardscapes are dirty, whether that be the driveway, sidewalk, patio or veranda, I feel a duty to clean them up. The best and fastest way to accomplish a clean look is with an electric blower.
Why an Electric Blower?
As a professional gardener, I used to use gas powered leaf blowers. I always hated the hassle of getting the thing started. From setting the choke and priming the fuel, to pulling the string starter over and over until the thing finally decided to start. Then, when I finally did get the gs powered blower started, my reward was a terrible, loud, machine that sprayed fumes everywhere, polluting the earth. Now thanks to modern battery technology, we have these wonderful electric blowers. All I have to do is grab a fully charged battery, slide it into the blower and pull the blower trigger. It starts right up every single time.
At first I was skeptical of the electric blower. Will it have enough power? Will the battery last long enough to finish the job? My skepticism was quickly eliminated after the first use. The electric blower has surprising power and the battery lasts for a long time. It’s also lightweight and easy to maneuver. Also, I don’t have to store dirty gas mixed with oil.
Which Electric Blower is the Right One?
I’ve used a few different models of electric blowers. The one I like the best is the Ego electric blower. It has good power and reliable batteries. For most households, the hand held blower will be more than sufficient. For the professional or someone with a large estate, the backpack version might be a better choice.
Uses for the Electric Blower
As a professional gardener, I have found many uses for my electric blower. In the spring and summer, I use it to blow dirt and debris off of driveways and patios for a clean look. I blow mulch back into the garden beds where it has drifted into the grass and onto patios. I’ve used a blower to blow water out of birdbaths and water fountains to clean them and refresh the water.
In the fall the electric blower is an indispensable tool for leaf cleanups. I blow the leaves off driveways and patios into the grass where they can easily be picked up by the lawn mower. Or I use the blower to blow the leaves into a pile so I can save myself some trouble with the rake.
Another great use is cleaning out gutters. Instead of using a ladder and grabbing the leaves by hand, I simply blow them out with the blower. It’s not so fun when there is a little water at the bottom of the gutter, because it splashes all over my clothes and face. But it gets the job done.
In the winter I still use my electric blower to blow off driveways and patios. I also have used it to blow away a light dusting of snow.
The electric blower is totally worth it in my opinion. I use mine everyday at work. I save a lot of money by not buying gas and two cycle oil. I’m also not breathing in toxic fumes and creating a bunch of irritating noise everybody hates. It’s good for everybody!
